Our Programs
Teachers at Lawnton Kindy develop and deliver a kindergarten program according to our philosophy, and based in the Federal Government’s Early Years Learning Framework and Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. Our play-based curriculum is specifically tailored to the 3 – 5 year old age group, attending kindy in the year before Prep.
Our program is designed to cater to the specific social and educational needs of each child. Each kindy group has a maximum of 22 children, with at least 1 Teacher and 1 Assistant per group.
Kindy sessions we currently offer:
- 2 day group: Monday, Tuesday – 8:30am to 4pm
- 5 day fortnight group: Thursday, Friday and alternating Wednesday’s – 8:30am to 2:30pm
- 5 day fortnight group: Thursday, Friday and alternating Wednesday’s – 8:45am to 2:45pm
Kindy operates like school: Parents enrol their child into a kindy group, which attends on their set days throughout the year.
Prep Transition Program
Lawnton Kindy plays a vital part in preparing your child for their transition to Prep. We work hand in hand with Lawnton State School to best prepare our future Preppies.
Our first excursion to the school happens early in the year in term 2 to start the familiarity process, we attend Lawnton State School’s Under 8’s celebrations.
In term 3 we start incursions where we warmly welcome Teacher’s from Lawnton State School to Kindy to participate in an activity within in our environment, we have visits from the PE teacher, music Teacher and a Prep teacher.
Term 4 is a busy term for us working towards our children transitioning to Prep, we step up our visits to Lawnton State School with several visits across the term, they consist of classroom visits, a Library and Tuckshop visit and a music visit.
All children attending Lawnton Kindy will participate in this program, regardless of what school your child will be attending we believe this program will benefit your child in building that familiarity within the school and classroom environment and prepare your child for a smooth transition to a lifetime of learning.
Pre-Kindy Program
We offer a Pre-Kindy program on Mondays and Tuesdays in Term 3 & 4 if there is enough interest. This provides children with the opportunity to build familiarity with Lawnton Kindy, and with Kindy-like routines, in a limited hour day that tends to work well for most 3 year-olds. Pre-Kindy supports children’s transition to the Kindy program, with an emphasis on learning kindy routines, social and emotional development. Our current program operates from 9.00am – 1.00pm.
